Why Join a Credit Union?
A credit union is a not-for-profit, member-owned, financial cooperative that serves its members’ needs. The earnings of credit unions are returned to its members in the form of lower loan rates and fewer fees. Credit unions do not have shareholders that are looking for a profit every year. Credit unions were built on the seven cooperative principles that many cooperative still use today.
Five Star’s history is rooted in the trees of Alabama and Georgia. The credit union was founded in 1964 in Cedar Springs, GA as the Cedar Springs Federal Credit Union. It was chartered to serve the employees of the Great Southern Paper Company.
